There are some amazing landmarks, beaches and cities to visit and also some lesser known places to explore, of equal wonder and splendor. Anyone can go to the Pyramids or Terra Cotta Warriors, and although these are brilliant works of history…while you are there, why not take the road less travelled and visit lesser known tourism wonders. In this article, we will explore cities and places that offer pieces of history and amazing technology of present day.
A popular place to travel is Italy, known to most for its history lined sidewalks of Rome or the water infused streets of Venice. If you look just beyond these main points of interest, far above the sea levels of Italy, 749 meters to be exact you will find the hilly State of San Marino. Located only 167 kilometers away from the gondolas of Venice and 228 kilometers away from gladiator stages of Rome, San Marino offers a piece of history with a stunning view. This gracious enclave is said to be one of the world’s oldest Republics, with a discovery date of 301 AD. The State is home to “The Towers of San Marino”, shown in the picture; the towers were at one time a fortress. There are three towers in total: Rocca Guaita, Rocca Cesta and Montale. Also, there are about 10 museums to visit while you are there including the one of a kind “Museum of Curious Objects” which houses a unique collection of man’s inventions.
South African safaris are a wild adventure, but also very mapped out and pretty high in popularity. Whilst among the lions in Africa, why not stopover at Victoria Falls also known as Mosi-oa Tunya (The Smoke that Thunders)? Victoria Falls is located in between Zambia and Zimbabwe on the Zambezi River. The national park it is located in offers plenty of wildlife and a magnificent sunset. You can enjoy such activities as bungee jumping and helicopter rides. By the way, with a 111 meter drop, the spoken of bungee jumping is one of the highest in the world.
Lastly, why not visit the self proclaimed 8th wonder of the world. The man made Islands of Dubai are definitely a sight to be seen. Along with the Great Wall of China, the Dubai masterpieces can be seen from space. Just when you thought you had heard it all Dubai in itself has single handedly created a tourist playground surpassed by none. You can ski in the mall, take a hot air balloon ride or even stay at the world’s only 7 star hotel! If you are looking for sights you will not see anywhere else then Dubai is a definite bucket list entry.
With so many tourist areas being swallowed up by the swarms here’s to trudging on and discovering new worlds, uncovering old secrets and discovering the miracles of today.
