I don’t know what your plans are for Valentine’s Day but I know from personal experience that it often ends by a cosy movie night. Not necessarily romantic flick; it could be a movie you saw a thousand times and that makes you feel good or something you absolutely want your friend/lover to discover. For my part, I can see a movie multiple times without being bored if I love the characters, and if they’re fashionable, it’s even better. So here is, just for you, my Top 10 of the most stylish movie couples/duos. I hope it will help you decide which film to watch on that special night, or any other night for that matter!

CASABLANCA (1942)

Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart) and Llsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman)

This is a classic but, as surprising as it may be, I saw it for the first time a couple of months ago. You’ll be touched by this heart-rending love story about Rick who’s torn between his will to help Llsa and the feelings he has for her. Don’t they look perfect?

Dean (Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (Michelle Williams)

BLUE VALENTINE (2010)

I cried, and cried, and cried and cried again. First, avoid this movie for a first date.  Secondly, you must strongly believe in living happily ever after. Beware: viewers may be discouraged from relationships after seeing this one.

EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (1990)

A lovely Winona Rider and an endearing Johnny Depp, that’s a perfect mix for a successful evening.

Edward (Johnny Depp) and Kim (Winona Rider)

WALK THE LINE (2005)

Johnny Cash (Joaquin Pheonix) and June Carter (Reese Witherspoon)

One thing: gorgeous hair. And what a romantic story June Carter and Johnny Cash had, separated by drugs, alcohol, marriage, music and they’re finally back together for better or for worst.

Charley (Julianne Moore) and George Falconer (Colin firth)

A SINGLE MAN (2009)

This film is simply beautiful. Directed by Tom Ford, you’re assured of perfect images and beautiful costumes.  And what about the particular friendship between Charley and George, both suffering from loneliness: simply beautiful.

PORT OF SHADOWS (1938)

Jean (Jean Gabin) and Nelly (Michèle Morgan)

Don’t feel bad if you never heard of this movie. I personally remember it because it’s where the expression “You have beautiful eyes” comes from.  This is so romantic!

STARSKY AND HUTCH (1975-79)

I know, these characters are not from a movie, but what a trendy duo! Turtleneck sweaters, denim jackets and shirts, knitted cardigans: they look like they shop at Urban Outfitters.

Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Hutch (David Soul)

THE 5TH ELEMENT (1997)

Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) and Leeloo (Milla Jovovich)

This is an awesome French science fiction movie with famous talented actors, true. But what makes it special to me is that its costumes were designed by none other than Jean-Paul Gaultier, the “terrible child” of French fashion.

STAR WARS

Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)
Witness the adorable relationship growing between Princess “cinnamon bun hairstyle” Leia and Han “charming” solo by organizing a Star Wars Trilogy movie night.

Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford)

ROCKY (1976)

I’m only suggesting the first one because this is when the sweet and naive Rocky meets Adrian as she’s working in a pet shop, but a special Rocky movie night (or weekend!) is also a great idea.
Rocky II (1979), Rocky III (1982), Rocky IV (1985), Rocky V (1990) and Rocky Balboa (2006)

Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stalone) and Adrian Pennino (Talia Shire)
