As the Spring/Summer weather hits the Northern Hemisphere in the clutches of May, traditionally invitations fill the mailboxes of the elite. As an amazing honor and distinction of the upper-echelons, invitations to the most elegant garden parties are coveted by European elitists. Amongst the most prestigious are the garden parties held at Buckingham Palace by the British Sovereign and the Bastille Day celebration that the president of France holds annually at the Palais de I’Elysée. Dripping in elegance and class, these events are not only the social events of the year, but also amongst the most fashionable. They call for a certain contrast to nature, but with an amazing embrace of formal elegance.
Ladies: There is an ethereal nature that surrounds you, so flowing gowns and shorter summer dresses are a must. Keeping prints minimal in the contrast of the floral background, light pastels and shades of pink will be the perfect colors to compliment the surroundings. Gentlemen: With all of the color surrounding you, there is not as much demand to incorporate the brighter colors of nature into your outfits. Rather, try the more neutral tones of nature. Fitted suits, with 1-2 buttons and sleek lapels not only filled the runways for the Spring 2012 lines, but keep menswear in the modern arena with womenswear for these prestigious events. Neckwear is obligatory for these events, so why not make a bold statement? Pick bold accessories that will not only compliment your outfit, but the surroundings as well.
In modern times, however, these posh events can even be translated into simpler get-togethers. Trips to elegant gardens like those of the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California, and local arboretums can easily become just as classy as the garden parties of the most elite. They may not carry the same prestige as those of royalty and the upper-echelons, but they can easily be just as elegant and most importantly even more fun!
